Since I was in the 7th grade, I’ve enjoyed carrying unique, beautiful handbags. As a teenager, I’ve looked to my mother, Ms. Joann Davis, and my grandmother Hattie McCreary, to help me know what style of handbags to carry to fit whatever outfit.

When I learned how to make a macramé purse in my 7th grade “Home Economics’’ class with Ms. Felecia Drake back in Atmore, Alabama, I began to enjoy macramé as a hobby and already possessed a natural creativity.

In 2003, I launched the ideas of Handmaiden Macramé purses by Gwen Jackson and begin doing craft shows in Cleveland, Ohio.

These macramé handbags are so exquisite and now I have turned into a small family business.

Gwen J bags are elegant, yet sturdy, durable, and uniquely designed from an engineer’s prospective. They will not fade or shrink and wear better overtime.

These handbags provide an absolutely stunning touch with any outfit or occasion.

In most cases, my purses are “one of a kind” even though it could be the same handbag. They come in various styles, shapes, sizes, and colors. The macramé purses can be designed with leather, suede, hardware and various embellishments can be added to fit your style.

There is no limit to what can be added to my handbags. There are constantly new designs being thought of and made. The handbags can be customized to whatever is desired.

My goal is for every woman, teenager, and little girl who carries a Gwen J bag to smile, enjoy and have fun matching them with their apparel as much as I do and have for years.

With the birth of my children, I transitioned from engineering to full-time parenting, homemaking, and tutoring. This transition allowed me to start my handbag business.  Also, I was able to write a book about breastfeeding.  If you are a new mother or expecting a child and have questions about breastfeeding your baby, this book is a good resource.  Follow the link below to purchase or learn more about the book.

  1. I work with Felecia Drake, and wanted to let you know how proud she is of your success. She told us your wonderful story yesterday in our faculty meeting and I was so excited to check out your bags. I used to love to macrame` when I was younger, and think it is wonderful that you have renewed this almost lost art. Your handbags are exquisite!
